With a full time job and social life it might get quite tricky to find time for private creative work. Sometimes it’s a struggle to find the energy or time for it, but once you figure out the right system in the weekly schedule, working on private projects can get one of the most pleasurable activities in the whole week.
For me it’s important to make personal animations and illustrations. I realised that almost every creative needs regularly at least a small amount of productivity to stay in mental balance. As a student most of the projects I did were purely personal, it took me nearly 2 years of working for someone else, to recognise how much I’ve missed that.
One of my professors once said “drawing is like a sport”. If you’re not drawing or illustrating routinely, you get rusty. It took me a while to get back and I’m still developing my personal style but it’s a very exciting process. Improving skills is the biggest reward of private projects.
'Do more of what makes you happy' they say. And that's what it is.
